Well it is Christmas time, but as the old Band Aid lyric goes “there is no need to be afraid.” We decided to take a short breather from the peak Christmas fundraising season. To step out of the detail of fundraising appeals, and reflect on the kind of attributes that drew us to charitable work.

We were fortunate to welcome a generous speaker. A man who spends his working days helping victims of crime and his free time helping children growing up with cancer to laugh, smile, and be kids again. Julian Llewelyn has volunteered with Camp Quality for over 13 years. He helped us charge the batteries of our souls by sharing stories of why he volunteers, over and over again. It was an intimate affair with just a handful of clients from Caritas Australia, Redkite and of course Camp Quality. At times there was barely a dry eye in the house. We appreciated Julian giving up more of his personal time on behalf of client Camp Quality to remind ourselves of the the true spirit of charity – giving ones self to others. “Marlin presents…” is a series of conversations we wanted to have with our team. We have had conversations about yet purposeful advertising, conversations about powerful stories, and conversations about what it is like to really ask for money.
